Pre-Treatment Instructions for Filler

Dermal Fillers

We are thrilled to have you join us this week for a dermal filler treatment and appreciate your trust in us to provide you with this procedure. Here are some helpful tips prior to your injection so that we can make sure everything goes smoothly.

  1. Stop the following supplements. Vitamin E, Fish oil, and all supplements that start with a "G" (ginseng, ginko biloba, garlic, etc).
  2. NO Aspirin (unless prescribed by your physician) - and please let us know ahead of time, and NO Ibuprofen at least 3-5 days prior to your procedure.
  3. You may choose to begin taking Arnica Montana 3-5 days prior to your procedure (this can help cut down on bruising). You may find this at any health food store, some pharmacies and on Amazon.
  4. You may eat fresh pineapple (prior to and after your procedure). The bromelain enzyme, found in pineapple, has been linked to decrease swelling, bruising, and healing time.
  5. Avoid alcoholic beverages at least 48 hours prior to your procedure.

If you have any further questions regarding your procedure, please let us know. Please complete your Guest Form including your medical history and consent form in your Account.

Pre-Treatment Instructions for Dermaplane

Dermaplane

Thank you so much for choosing us for your upcoming Aesthetic Treatment. We hope these answers some commonly asked questions.

What is Dermaplaning?

    • Dermaplaning is more aggressive than shaving.
              • Dermaplaning uses a surgical, disposable blade.
              • Dermaplaning cannot be performed at home.
              • Dermaplaning blades are singular, whereas razors are usually stacked with 2-3 blades.
              • Dermaplaning is a skin rejuvenation treatment intended to remove dead skin cells and improve fine lines, wrinkles, and improve skin tone and texture.
              • Dermaplaning should not be used to get rid of terminal hair (such as beard hair).
              • Dermaplaning should not be received any sooner than 21 days apart
              • If you have any further questions regarding your procedure, please let us know.

What should I do prior to my treatment?

Discontinue any manual or physical exfoliation 3-5 days prior. The essence of a dermaplaning service is that it exfoliates the uppermost layers of skin to remove unwanted skin cells, dull and dry skin, as well as vellus facial hair.

  • To ensure the skin is not damaged by over-exfoliation, discontinue use of any products containing ingredients that slough off skin cells. This includes, but is not limited to AHAs, BHAs, enzymes, micro-beads, and retinoids.
  • If you are currently using Retin-A (the highest strength retinoid on the market) discontinue use for 7-14 days prior to treatment.
  • If you have just begun using the product and are experiencing flaking, peeling, redness, dryness, or irritation, discontinue for 14 days prior to receiving this service.

Avoid sun exposure for 5-7 days prior to the service.

Do not schedule Botox or facial filler prior to dermaplaning.

  • Many people schedule their appointments back-to-back, and why shouldn't you stack? It saves time, energy, and gas. If you've found a one-stop shop salon, hats off to you.
  • That being said, schedule wisely.
  • Schedule your dermaplaning service before your Botox or filler appointment if you are receiving them on the same day. If you are receiving them after, follow the guidelines above.

Schedule your waxing services 1-2 weeks before dermaplaning.

  • Facial epilation (hair removal from the bulb) needs to be scheduled 7-14 days prior to receiving a dermaplaning service.
  • You may choose to do away with waxing, threading, and sugaring altogether in lieu of hair removal via dermaplaning.
  • While dermaplaning is great for vellus hair, it is inadequate for removal of terminal hair, such as beard hair. Eyebrows and thick chin hair are other examples.
  • Waxing and sugaring remove a layer of skin cells, along with the intended hair. Schedule your appointment 7-14 days prior to avoid over-exfoliation or irritation.

Acne

  • Reschedule your appointment if you have open acne lesions or wounds.
  • Dermaplaning is not a safe service to perform with open wounds or acne lesions nor is it safe to try and shave around the areas.
  • You will need to wait at least 6 months after completing Accutane treatment.
  • Schedule your waxing services 1-2 weeks before dermaplaning.

Pre-Treatment Instructions for Chemical Peels

Skincare Peels

To maximize the desired outcome of the chemical peel, we recommend you follow these pre-treatment instructions prior to your scheduled treatment:

Your Homecare Regimen:

  1. If you are using a retinoid product (Retin A, Tri Retinol Complex, etc.) you must STOP 5 days prior to the chemical peel.
  2. Use a physical sunscreen with at least an SPF 30+ everyday rain or shine for at least 3 weeks prior to the chemical peel.
  3. STOP the use of any benzoyl peroxide product (Purity Gel Spot TX, Acne Lotion, etc.) or any other product that can cause dryness, redness or irritation 3 days prior to the chemical peel.
  4. If prone to cold sores, a physician-dispensed prescription must be used 2 days before and 5 days after the chemical peel. Please let us know if you require such a prescription.
  5. A melanin-suppressing agent may be recommended depending on your skin type. You must follow the appropriate instructions on use of this product.
  6. If you have any further questions regarding your procedure, please let us know.

In Addition:

  • No facial waxing 1 week prior to chemical peel
  • No filler 1 week prior to chemical peel
  • No IPL or Laser Hair Removal 2 weeks prior to chemical peel. Botox can be done up to 1 day before a chemical peel.

We are so excited you have decided to join us for the ZO Skin Health 3 Step Peel;. We love this peel for it's fabulous results to leave skin looking and feeling fresh. Please expect the following process post-appointment.

  1. Immediately following the peel, skin may look light yellow, red, or tan. The yellow color is due to the Retinoic Acid included in the formulation. It is temporary and will fade in minutes.
  2. Mild to moderate redness and swelling may be present.
  3. In case of swelling, an over-the-counter antihistamine may help decrease the swelling. You may choose to take Benadryl 25mg at night following your peel.
  4. Peeling generally begins day 2 or 3. On rare occasions, peeling may not begin until day four.
  5. Peeling is shedding or sloughing off of the skin. DO NOT SCRUB, PICK, OR PULL AT SKIN. Scrubbing, picking, or pulling at skin can result in infection, redness, irritation, or hyperpigmentation.

Pre-Treatment Instructions for Ultherapy

Ultherapy

We are thrilled to have you join us this week for an Ultherapy treatment and appreciate your trust in us to provide you with this procedure. Here are some helpful tips prior to your appointment so that we can make sure everything goes smoothly.

                  1. Avoid excessive sun exposure 1 week prior to the treatment.
                  2. For 3 days prior to the procedure, do not use topical products containing retinoids (e.g. Retin-A), glycolic acid or salicylic acid, as these can irritate skin.
                  3. Please come to the office without make-up. The make-up can impair the delivery of the ultrasound energy through the skin.
                  4. Over-the-counter, analgesic medication such as acetaminophen (Tylenol) may be taken prior to arrival. Ultherapy is relatively uncomfortable. While some people elect to have the procedure without numbing, we recommend injectable lidocaine to help reduce discomfort. Your provider may discuss alternative options for pain for you.
                  5. Avoid taking Aspirin, Non-steroidal Anti-Inflammatory Drugs (NSAIDS) such as ibuprofen, Vitamin E, Ginger, Ginko Bilboa, Ginseng, and Garlic 7-10 days prior to the procedure. These drugs and herbs may cause excessive bleeding or bruising.
                  6. To further decrease the risk of bruising you may start Arnica or Arnica/Bromelin supplements one day prior to your procedure and continue a few days following the procedure. Arnica gel may be of benefit for use post procedure to help reduce bruising.
                  7. Protect your investment with a good skin care regimen. Our cosmetic coordinator can discuss our recommended products with you.

What to Expect From the Procedure

  • When we arrive, pre procedure photographs will be taken.
  • Your skin will be marked to plan out the treatment areas.
  • Treatments take 0.5-1.5 hours and you can expect to feel some soreness, numbness and tingling after the treatment. This is normal and will resolve in 2-3 weeks after the treatment.
  • Bruising may take 5-7 days to resolve.
  • You can resume all your normal activities and skin care regimen immediately following the treatment.
  • It will take 3-6 months to see optimal results.
